Sunday evenings Sofienberg church becomes a neighbourhood cinema, screening films in line with our title question "What if Nature Comes First?". This Sunday, we show the film «Voicing the Land» (2026) by director Kieran Kolle, a thought-provoking documentary that shows local communities' resistance against the capital interests that build down nature in the name of sustainability:
«VOICING THE LAND portrays a group of people who are first-hand witnesses to the destruction of their surrounding nature, caused by various 'green shift' projects. When speaking out against these encroachments, they are simply dismissed as opponents to the climate struggle. Despite their growing distrust in democratic processes and an overall sense of powerlessness, these people – so closely tied to the nature surrounding them – refuse to surrender. Through encounters with the people paying the price of ‘green capitalism’, spectacular visual compositions and a subtle narrative, the film shows how these processes undermine democracy, divide communities and ultimately hurt the ever-important climate struggle.» (Text: Aldeles.)
