Seminar Workshop

How can we influence future architecture competitions?

What happens to an architecture competition when nature gets to define the premises? Join us in challenging this year’s Europan briefs before they are launched

What happens to an architecture competition when nature is given priority? Europan invites the public to challenge and influence the briefs for this year’s Norwegian competition sites.

From a new knowledge centre for a marine protected area in Loppa and untangling the town-centre challenge in Gol to new ways of living in Inderøy – this year’s Norwegian Europan 19 sites cover a wide range of issues.

During the workshop, Europan and the municipalities will introduce the different sites, their contexts and the challenges they face. Participants will then divide into smaller groups to sharpen the key questions and explore possible approaches through writing, drawing and discussion.

The ideas generated will be brought into an open discussion with Europan, the municipalities and Oslo Architecture Triennale:

If nature is to shape the premises, how will this affect the way architecture competitions are structured? What conditions need to be established? And how does the architect’s role in society change if ecosystems – rather than only the municipality or developer – are understood as the project’s client?

The aim is to generate new professional perspectives and concrete input for the competition briefs before they are launched in spring 2027. The event is particularly relevant to architects, landscape architects, urban development professionals and students.
