Start the day in the church pews!

In our regular programme fixture «today's sermon» we invite dedicated professionals up on the pulpit to present a challenge within the 2026 Triennale's title question – "What if Nature Comes First?" – and a solution. Drop by the Sofienberg Church in the morning hours and start the day with church coffee and a short lecture.

This morning we meet Søren Nielsen, who will talk about how the drivers of the building sector's resource consumption are in fact investors' and municipalities' need for return of interest and income. If the climate challenge is to be taken seriously, building (new) needs to be limited. This will in turn create a new large potential for a richer urban (and home) life.

Søren Nielsen is architect and professor at Aarhus School of Architecture. He has for 35 years been practicing architect as partner at Vandkunsten Architects in Copenhagen and responsible for innovation activities, in particular affordable housing, housing renovation, reuse and all social and cultural aspects of circularity.
