Start the day in the church pews!

In our regular programme fixture «today's sermon» we invite dedicated professionals up on the pulpit to present a challenge within the 2026 Triennale's title question – "What if Nature Comes First?" – and a solution. Drop by the Sofienberg Church in the morning hours and start the day with church coffee and a short lecture.

This morning we meet Patrick Bellan (SE), who will hold the sermon "With Nature as Ideal". Here, he will talk about trees in the city – and about building recilient and competitive: What city are we building and what kind of natural environment (if any) does it resemble? What plants thrive in the places we biuld and where do we find them in nature?

Patrick Bellan works as a tree specialist in the City of Malmö, Sweden, and is responsible for the management and development of an urban stand of more than 100 000 trees. His work includes strategic questions about diversity and resilience in the stand of trees, as well as detailed assesments of the variety of species, site adaptation and technical solutions. Parallel to this he has his own business supporting places and architectural practices in the field of urban greenery.

Patrick leads the Swedish Tree Association and is in the board of The Nordic Urban Tree Fund. In both positions he works to strenghten the knowledge exchange aroud tree questions between nordic places.
