The church doors are open – welcome!
Start the day in the church pews!
In our regular programme fixture «today's sermon» we invite dedicated professionals up on the pulpit to present a challenge within the 2026 Triennale's title question – "What if Nature Comes First?" – and a solution. Drop by the Sofienberg Church in the morning hours and start the day with church coffee and a short lecture.
This morning we meet Frank Denis Foray from Snøhetta, who will hold the sermon "Past and Future: New Possibilities With Traditional Building Practices", where he talks about the project Lona dagshytte.
The project is a result of a collaboration driven by fundamental questions and solutions around sustainability. The building has a long life span, is built by local materials and has close to zero energi use. At its core the project carries on traditional Norwegian craft methods and biulding practices that have been used for centuries: cordwood walls based on reused timber in combination with a hand made log construction with traditionally treated roof shingle. All timber used in the cabin is taken out using horse to minimise the damage on nature, and the saw is transported to the plot to reduse the transport of materials.
Frank Denis Foray is one of the architects and project leaders in Snøhetta with the most experience, having been a part of Snøhetta since 1995. He has extensive experience with large, complex projects through his work as project leader for the new Headquarters og Le Monde and the visiting centre at the International Centre for Cave Art in Lascaux. Frank was essential in starting up Snøhetta's studio in Paris, and has also specialised in wood and massive projects, with responsibility for projects such as the Esbjerg Maritime Centre and Lona dagshytte. Frank has won several cultural design competitoins as project leader.
The doors open and the coffee is ready from 08 PM. Today's sermon starts at 08:15.
