Start the day in the church pews!

In our regular programme fixture «Today's preachment» (the in-depth weekend version of «Today's sermon») we invite dedicated professionals up on the pulpit to present a challenge within the 2026 Triennale's title question – "What if Nature Comes First?" – and a solution. Drop by the Sofienberg Church in the morning hours and start the day with church coffee and a short lecture.

This Saturday we meet David Watson from London-based AKTII, who will hold the sermon "Land and Time". The natural world is dynamic and cyclical. Its landscapes are an expression of complex ecologies, moulded by time and influenced by deep history. The forest is more than the sum of its trees. In this sermon, through a series of project examples, we will see what can be achieved when we think in terms of land-use and the value of time. Borrowing some language from culinary world, we will look beyond the site boundary and imagine a different, more holistic approach to construction.

David is Technical Director at AKT II, an interdisciplinary design practice in London. He leads the practice on matters related to climate action. His project work focusses on creative re-use and low-carbon materials. His research covers a diverse range of topics including dynamic lifecycle assessments, novel biogenic materials and the economics of production systems. He has taught at universities across the UK and the US, most recently at Harvard GSD.
