Today's preachment

What if the least possible is the most?

Alexandria Algard holds Today's sermon

Start the day in the church pews!

In our regular programme fixture «Today's preachment» (the in-depth weekend version of «Today's sermon») we invite dedicated professionals up on the pulpit to present a challenge within the 2026 Triennale's title question – "What if Nature Comes First?" – and a solution. Drop by the Sofienberg Church in the morning hours and start the day with church coffee and a short lecture.

This Saturday we meet Alexandria Algard, who will hold the sermon "What if the least possible is the most?". What has happened with the building industry when it is perceived as radical to suggest to continue to use what actually works in a rehabilitation? Can we as architects contribute to increase the degree of reuse – and still create beautiful spaces? How can treasure hunting as method facilitate more sustainable building projects?

This is some of the things Algard will he talk about in her preachment, that uses the transformation of the old Sandnes Town Hall from 1961 as example of how transformation can be done in unconventional ways to win both in terms of economics, environment and experiential values. Can the discipline of architecture regain its faith in the future through increased reuse? It is possible to have fun with transformation projects and at the same time create rich experiences?

Alexandria Algard is an architect, speaker, debater and strategic concept developer. She is former president of the National Association of Norwegian Architects (NAL), has been jury leader for the national Attractive City prize and has led the government's forum on architecture, housing quality and neighbourhoods. She is a regular participant in panel debates, writes opinion pieces and is guest lecturer. In 2025–2026 she was guest professos at the Kansas State University. She has her own architect practice in Stavanger.

The coffee is ready from 12 PM. Today's sermon starts at 12:15.
