Einar Sneve Martinussen is Associate Professor at AHO; Dan Hill is Director of Melbourne School of Design; Joakim Formo is Associate Professor at AHO

Einar Sneve Martinussen, Dan Hill and Joakim Formo with students are a part of the exhibition Mission Neighbourhood – (Re)forming communities with the project Garden of Ideas.

The brief is familiar for many professions, basically: introducing the task at hand. The brief is also at the centre of A Garden of Ideas – a continuous design workshop made by associate professors Einar Sneve Martinussen and Joakim Formo from the Oslo School of Architecture and Design, and Director Dan Hill from the Melbourne School of Design. Divided into three, the project includes a large collection of design briefs for reimagining neighbourhood life, a pop-up strategic design studio, and a series of activities aimed to explore the briefs and communicate the workshop outcome. A six week design experiment within the four walls of the old Munch Museum’s former workshop, A Garden of Ideas is truly a laboratory within the Neighbourhood Lab itself.

Einar Sneve Martinussen is Associate Professor and Chair of Interaction Design at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design. Einar is a designer, researcher and educator working with culture, society, technology, and futures. Martinussen leads the interdisciplinary research-group Digital Urban Living on strategic design, digital cities and daily life. Einar has extensive experience in using design practice and methodology as a tool for experimentation and innovation, often in collaboration with citizens, institutions and policy- makers. Einar’s design and research practice is broad, and includes visualisations, films, interactive products and exhibitions, civic interventions, illustrations and pedagogy.

Dan Hill is Director of Melbourne School of Design, the graduate school in the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne. A designer and urbanist, Dan's previous design leadership roles include the Swedish government’s innovation agency Vinnova, Arup in UK and Australia, the UK's Future Cities Catapult, Fabrica in Italy, the Finnish Innovation Fund SITRA, and the BBC. Dan is also a Visiting Professor at UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Practice and a founder member of the Council on Urban Initiatives.

Joakim Formo is Associate Professor in the Department of Design at Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO).
Based on long and broad experience from global work with the telecommunications industry, Joakim has a particular interest in strategic design and critical understanding of social and societal implications of future and emerging digital technologies. For well over a decade he initiated and led multidisciplinary explorative design- and research projects from within Ericsson R&D and was Strategic Design Director of Ericsson’s global innovation when he joined AHO in 2022.
Joakim has a masters degree in design from AHO, including studies in urbanism at the Royal College of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm
